Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police Anjani Kumar on Friday said that the State Police has taken appropriate measures for those who go abroad seeking employment so that they would not be victimised to any kind of fraud. A meeting on Safety and Regularization of Migrants and Employees Going Abroad -Actions to be taken by the Police Department was held at the DGP office under the auspices of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
Ausaf Saeed, Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs of India, Brahma Kumar, Joint Secretary, Protector General of Immigrants, Under Secretary Sushil Kumar Meena, Additional DGs Abhilasha Bist, Sanjay Kumar Jain, Hyderabad Commissioner of police CV Anand, Rachakonda CP DS.Chauhan and other senior officers were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said Telangana State is in the forefront of sending well-trained manpower mainly in nursing and para-medical fields to foreign countries, especially to Middle Eastern countries and European countries.
However, at the same time, those who go to Gulf countries for various jobs from Karimnagar, Jagtial, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Nirmal, Adilabad and other districts are being cheated by agents, he said.
The economically disadvantaged and illiterate people who go to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain Malaysia and Dubai are mostly victims of these fraudsters. The DGP said a strict vigil was kept on unrecognized foreign recruitment agencies, illegal recruitment agencies and tourist agencies in the state.
Kumar also informed the meeting that the police had already reported three cases of cheating in Kuwait to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Nizamabad Police Commissionerate has reported around ten similar cases. Ausaf Saeed, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India, said that a new Act is being introduced to replace the current Immigration Act of 1983 in order to take strict action against the agencies that illegally send people abroad without proper permits in the name of employment opportunities.
He said that it will also be sent to the states to provide appropriate advice and suggestions for this law.
About 3.70 lakh workers migrated from India to different countries last year including those who went illegally and were cheated by agents. Saeed said that women from the southern states of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as well as migrant workers from the states of Punjab are the most victims of fraud. Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand disclosed that there are around 82 unauthorized and unregistered recruiting and consultancy agencies in the state, and 52 of them are in Hyderabad. Rachakonda Commissioner D S Chauhan requested changes in laws to take strict action against agencies that commit frauds.
