  • DA hike announced for state employees
  • Free accident insurance introduced

The Telangana government has rolled out a major update for its employees combining stricter discipline measures with long awaited welfare benefits. While the administration has tightened rules related to unauthorised absence, it has also announced a hike in dearness allowance and a comprehensive accident insurance scheme.

As part of amendments to the state civil services rules, the government has decided to act firmly against prolonged absence from duty. Officials said the move aims to strengthen accountability and ensure regular functioning of government offices.

Under the revised provisions, employees who remain absent from duty for one year without prior approval may face the risk of losing their jobs. Those staying away continuously for more than five years can be permanently removed from service.

The rules also state that travelling abroad without government permission will invite strict action. However, before taking any disciplinary decision, authorities are required to issue a show cause notice to the concerned employee, ensuring due process.

Alongside the tightened norms, the government has offered financial relief to employees by increasing the dearness allowance. Despite fiscal constraints, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy approved the DA revision as part of a festive gesture.

The DA has been increased from 30.03 percent to 33.67 percent, a move expected to place an additional monthly burden of around 227 crore rupees on the state exchequer.

In another major welfare step, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced a free accident insurance scheme for government employees. The initiative is aimed at providing strong financial protection to families during unforeseen circumstances.

Under this scheme, around five lakh fourteen thousand permanent employees will receive accident insurance coverage worth 1.02 crore rupees. The government clarified that employees will not have to pay any premium, as discussions with banking institutions are already underway.

Officials said the approach reflects a balance between enforcing responsibility and supporting employee welfare. While the government has made it clear that indiscipline will not be tolerated, it has also reassured employees of continued financial and social security.

Employees currently on unauthorised leave have been advised to take immediate steps to regularise their status in line with the revised rules.
