Polling in one ward of Makthal municipality in Narayanapet district has been cancelled following the death of a BJP councillor candidate, a decision that has triggered political tension across Telangana. Election officials confirmed that voting in Ward Six was called off after the tragic incident.

The BJP candidate, Erukala Mahadevappa, was found dead in an apparent suicide, sending shockwaves through the region during the peak of municipal election campaigning. The Election Commission said the poll could not proceed due to the candidate’s death, in line with election rules.

Senior BJP leaders alleged that Mahadevappa was driven to take the extreme step after facing repeated threats from rival political groups. Party leaders claimed intimidation intensified after BJP rallies in Makthal drew strong public response, accusing Congress leaders of creating pressure through fear tactics.

BJP state president Ramchander Rao expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the candidate’s family. Union Minister Bandi Sanjay also reacted strongly, alleging the death was not a simple suicide and demanding accountability for those responsible.

Protests followed in Hyderabad, where BJP leaders staged demonstrations near the Director General of Police office, seeking a high level probe. Police intervened to control the situation as tensions rose.
