Telangana Municipal Elections 2026: JanaSena Opens Its Account Amid Congress Surge

Telangana municipal election results show Congress leading across towns, while JanaSena records its first victory in Nereducherla, marking a symbolic political entry in the state’s urban polls.

  • Congress leads Telangana municipal election results across most towns.
  • JanaSena secures its first municipal win in Nereducherla.
  • Party supporters see the victory as a symbolic but encouraging start.

As Telangana’s municipal election results continue to unfold, the overall picture is dominated by the Congress party, which is moving steadily towards a majority in most municipalities and corporations. The BRS remains competitive in several urban pockets, while the BJP is maintaining a presence in select areas. Amid this intense contest, one smaller party has managed to make a notable start.

For the first time in these municipal polls, JanaSena Party has opened its account in Telangana. The party registered its maiden win in Nereducherla municipality of Suryapet district, creating a moment of celebration among its supporters. Out of the 15 wards in Nereducherla, Congress secured nine seats, BRS won five, and JanaSena claimed one ward.

The victory came from Ward 14, where Arruri Vijayalakshmi, contesting on a JanaSena ticket, emerged victorious. She is the wife of Sarikoppula Nageswara Rao, the former undivided Nalgonda district JanaSena president. The result has been seen as a morale booster for the party, which contested in 336 wards across Telangana but managed to convert only one into a win.

Despite the modest number, JanaSena cadres and supporters have welcomed the outcome with enthusiasm, calling it a meaningful beginning in Telangana’s municipal politics. The party had drawn significant attention ahead of the elections, especially after announcements that JanaSena chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan might campaign in the state.

Senior BJP leaders had also approached him seeking support during the campaign, which briefly heightened political excitement. However, the proposed campaign was later cancelled due to unavoidable reasons, leaving both JanaSena and BJP candidates disappointed. Even so, the single ward victory has injected fresh energy into JanaSena ranks, with party workers viewing it as a foundation for future expansion in Telangana.
