Rain Alert Issued as Low Pressure System Brings Showers to Telugu States

A low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is set to influence weather across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with the Meteorological Department forecasting light to moderate rainfall in several regions over the next three days.

  • Low pressure system triggers rain alert.
  • Light to moderate showers expected statewide.
  • Thunderstorms likely in parts of Telangana.

Weather conditions across the Telugu states have changed abruptly following the formation of a low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. While some regions continue to experience heat, others are seeing intermittent rainfall, prompting the weather department to issue a fresh rain alert for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

According to the Amaravati Meteorological Centre, the low pressure area that formed over the southwest and adjoining central Bay of Bengal is persisting as of the morning of February twenty three. Its associated cyclonic circulation extends up to three point one kilometres above mean sea level and is expected to move northeastward and gradually weaken within the next twenty four hours.

In addition, a trough stretching from Gangetic West Bengal to north coastal Andhra Pradesh via Odisha, along with another trough from south interior Karnataka to Marathwada, is influencing rainfall activity. These combined systems are likely to trigger showers across several parts of the state for the next three days.

For north coastal Andhra Pradesh including Yanam, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places on Monday, with chances of lightning in a few locations. Similar rainfall conditions are expected to continue on Tuesday and Wednesday. South coastal Andhra Pradesh may also receive light to moderate rain at one or two places during the same period, along with occasional fog.

In Rayalaseema, light to moderate rainfall is expected at isolated locations on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. The department noted that there will be no significant change in minimum temperatures across coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema over the next two days.

In Telangana, the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has forecast light to moderate rain at isolated places in some districts over the next three days. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely in a few areas today and tomorrow due to the impact of the low pressure system and associated troughs.

Officials have advised residents to stay alert to changing weather conditions, especially in districts prone to thunderstorms, and to take basic precautions during lightning and rainfall activity.
