Telangana budget on March 20 may announce monthly assistance for women and higher pensions as the government moves to fulfil pending guarantees amid pressure to expand welfare coverage statewide plans.
With the state budget just weeks away, expectations are rising around new welfare announcements from the Telangana government. The budget session is scheduled for March 20, and officials indicate that key promises made during elections could finally move closer to implementation.
Among the most anticipated proposals is a monthly financial assistance scheme for women. Under the plan, women above 18 years of age may receive 2,500 rupees every month directly into their bank accounts. Finance department officials have reportedly submitted feasibility reports to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and a formal announcement is expected during the budget.
The government is also preparing to address long pending demands for higher social security pensions. The Congress manifesto promised to increase pensions for senior citizens to 4,000 rupees per month. While no decision has been taken so far, sources say budget allocations for the pension hike are under active consideration.
Since coming to power, the government has implemented select guarantees such as free bus travel for women, subsidised gas cylinders, free electricity up to 200 units and enhanced farmer support. However, opposition parties continue to question the delay in rolling out the remaining promises, adding pressure ahead of the budget.
Officials say a cabinet meeting before the budget session may finalise decisions on both women assistance and pension enhancement. If approved, these measures are expected to benefit lakhs of families across the state and mark a major welfare push in the new financial year.
