Hyderabad Gas Shortage Forces Hotels to Shift to Firewood Cooking

A sudden shortage of commercial cooking gas in Hyderabad is creating serious difficulties for hotels and hostel kitchens across the city. As supply disruptions continue many businesses have been forced to switch back to traditional firewood stoves to continue their daily cooking operations.

The problem has been linked to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East involving Israel the United States and Iran. The conflict has affected global crude oil movement and gas supply chains which is now reflecting in local markets including India. Authorities are currently prioritizing domestic cooking gas distribution which has led to reduced availability of commercial gas cylinders used by hotels and restaurants.

Because of the shortage several hotel kitchens and hostels in Hyderabad are struggling to run their operations smoothly. Some establishments have even faced temporary closures due to the lack of gas cylinders needed for large scale cooking.

With no immediate solution many hotel owners have turned to firewood as an alternative fuel. This sudden shift has caused a sharp rise in demand for firewood across the city. Wood market traders say sales have increased dramatically in the past few days.

According to firewood sellers daily sales were previously limited to around five to ten quintals. However in the last two to three days the demand has surged significantly with sales touching nearly five tonnes a day. Traders say if the situation continues for a few more days their stock may also run out.

Hotel owners say they have been cooking on firewood stoves for the last four days due to the shortage of commercial gas cylinders. While the alternative helps them keep kitchens running it is not an ideal solution for large scale cooking.

They also point out that cooking with firewood makes it difficult to prepare certain dishes and slows down kitchen operations. As a result many businesses are witnessing a decline in customers and daily sales.

Industry representatives are hoping that commercial gas supply will stabilize soon. Until then many food businesses in Hyderabad are left managing operations with traditional methods while waiting for normal fuel supply to resume.
