A tragic incident in Nizamabad district has once again highlighted the growing dangers of online games and betting addiction among youth. Arun, a young man from Nadipalli Thanda in Dichpally mandal, died by suicide after falling deep into debt due to online gaming.
Arun was working as an outsourcing employee in the boys hostel of Telangana University, supporting his family. Over time, he developed a habit of playing online games and betting, which slowly pushed him into financial trouble. In an attempt to recover losses, he continued investing money, only to fall further into debt.
As the burden increased, Arun even mortgaged his bike to arrange money for gaming. Despite these efforts, he reportedly lost significant amounts, leaving him with no way to repay the growing loans. Unable to handle the pressure and harassment from lenders, he took the extreme step at his home when no one was around.
The incident has left his family shattered. Arun had already faced personal loss earlier, as his father passed away due to illness nine months ago. His mother, who hoped he would support the family, is now devastated by his death.
Family members told police that Arun became addicted to online games and lost money repeatedly, leading to heavy debts. Based on their complaint, a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
Officials and locals say such incidents are increasing in the region. Many young people are turning to online betting apps with hopes of earning quick money but end up losing everything. Some even take high interest loans through mobile apps, which worsens their situation.
The spread of online betting, once mostly seen in cities, is now reaching rural areas, raising serious concerns. Experts believe there is an urgent need for stricter action against illegal betting platforms and better awareness to prevent more such tragedies.
This incident stands as a painful reminder of how online games addiction can destroy lives, leaving families in grief and uncertainty.
