Karnataka: SSLC Exam Marks Reduced to 525 Third Language Scores Not Counted
The SSLC exam evaluation system has been revised from 625 marks to 525 marks with third language subjects like Hindi graded separately and not included in the final marks total.

Bengaluru: The evaluation structure for the SSLC exam has undergone an important change. The total marks for the examination will now be calculated out of 525 instead of the earlier 625 marks. This revision will come into effect starting from the 2026 SSLC examinations.
Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa announced the decision while addressing the media in Bengaluru. He explained that the new rule aims to modify the way student performance is reflected in the marks card.
Third Language Marks Will Not Be Added
Under the updated system, marks obtained in third language subjects including Hindi will no longer be included in the final marks total. Earlier, these subjects contributed to the overall score out of 625 marks.
Students will continue to write the third language examination for 100 marks as before. However, instead of numerical marks, the result for these subjects will be recorded only as a grade in the marks card.
Implementation Begins From 2026 Exams
According to the education department, the revised system will be implemented for the SSLC examinations conducted in 2026. The marks card will display only the scores obtained out of 525 marks for the main subjects.
Officials say the change is intended to simplify the evaluation process while still ensuring that students study the third language subject. The grading format will indicate the student performance in the language without affecting the total marks calculation.
