DK Shivakumar Criticizes Petrol Diesel Excise Duty Cut Blames Centre Over Fuel Price Burden

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has strongly criticized the petrol diesel excise duty cut claiming the central government increased fuel prices earlier and reduced taxes now due to elections.

DK Shivakumar Reacts to Petrol Diesel Excise Duty Decision

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has expressed strong criticism over the recent decision of the central government to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel. The Centre recently lowered the duty by ten rupees per litre which brought the excise component on petrol down to three rupees while diesel duty dropped to zero.

Reacting to the move Shivakumar said the decision appears politically motivated. According to him the government had earlier allowed fuel prices to rise significantly and is now reducing the tax burden because several state assembly elections are approaching.

Allegation Over Rising Fuel Prices

Speaking in Bengaluru the Deputy Chief Minister accused the central government of placing financial pressure on citizens through rising fuel prices. He said the increase in petrol and diesel prices had already affected people and businesses across the country.

Shivakumar also alleged that oil companies had raised prices earlier which added to the burden on consumers. In his remarks he claimed that such policies were harming ordinary citizens and increasing economic stress.

Congress Leaders to Address the Issue

The Deputy Chief Minister also announced that senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala who is the party in charge for Karnataka would be arriving in Bengaluru. Shivakumar said he along with the Chief Minister and Surjewala would address the public and explain their position on the petrol diesel excise duty issue.

According to him the Congress leadership intends to highlight how fuel pricing decisions are impacting people and present their concerns before the public in the coming days.
