Telangana is stepping up its focus on animal welfare with a dual approach targeting stray dog management and cow protection. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy confirmed that the state has initiated large scale sterilisation programs for stray dogs within municipal limits.
During a recent meeting with former Union minister and animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi, officials outlined the steps being taken to address concerns related to stray animals. A detailed presentation highlighted how sterilisation drives are being implemented to control the stray dog population in urban areas.
Alongside this, the government is also investing in cow protection by planning the construction of goshalas across different parts of the state. These shelters are being designed with modern facilities, with a special focus on locations near temples to ensure better care and accessibility.
The Chief Minister noted that work has already begun on a major goshala project at Yenkapally, which is being developed on a large site with advanced infrastructure. More such facilities are expected to come up in the coming months as part of a broader strategy.
Maneka Gandhi, who visited Hyderabad with her team, reviewed these initiatives and expressed satisfaction with the government’s approach. She appreciated the efforts being made to improve animal welfare standards and acknowledged the progress achieved so far.
During her visit, she also launched a new animal ambulance service under the Greater Hyderabad Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and inspected the ongoing construction of a multi speciality animal hospital and shelter in Begum Bazaar. She expressed confidence that the long delayed project would soon be completed.
With these combined measures, the Telangana government aims to create a more structured and humane system for managing stray animals while ensuring proper care and protection for cows across the state.
