In a major crackdown, Hyderabad task force police have dismantled a gas cylinder black market network, arresting a group involved in illegally selling commercial cylinders at inflated prices.

According to officials, the accused had been operating as an organized gang, diverting commercial gas cylinders into the open market. They were reportedly supplying cylinders to hotels and restaurants at prices far higher than the official rates.

Investigators revealed that the gang created an artificial shortage by spreading false information about limited gas availability. Taking advantage of the situation, they sold cylinders priced around two thousand rupees for as much as six thousand rupees.

During the operation, police seized a total of 414 gas cylinders along with 11 vehicles used for transportation. The cylinders were stored at multiple locations, including a site in Panjagutta and a warehouse in Shamshabad, indicating a well planned network.

Authorities also found that the gang had set up an office in Afzalgunj to manage their activities. The main accused has been identified as Mohammed Ameer, a resident of Banjara Hills.

Police stated that the illegal operation had been running for over a year, causing significant disruption in supply and exploiting consumers and businesses alike.

With the arrest of the dealer and several members of the gang, officials believe a major part of the black market network has been dismantled. Further investigation is underway to identify additional links and prevent similar activities in the future.
