- Chicken shops shutdown begins across Telangana
- Retailers demand higher chicken margin per kg
- Chicken supply disruption likely for few days
Chicken shops across Telangana have shut down from today as retail sellers launched a protest against reduced profit margins, leading to temporary disruption in supply across the state.
Retail shop owners have demanded that poultry companies increase their margin to Rs 30 per kg, arguing that the recent cut has made their business unsustainable. Earlier, retailers were receiving around Rs 26 per kg, but the margin was reportedly reduced to Rs 16, triggering widespread dissatisfaction.
As part of the protest, shop owners have decided to keep their outlets closed, and the shutdown is expected to continue for the next two to three days. The decision has been taken collectively by retailers to pressure companies into revising the margin structure.
The sudden closure of chicken shops is likely to affect consumers, especially regular buyers who depend on daily availability. Many customers may face inconvenience due to limited or no supply during the protest period.
Retailers say the current margin does not cover operational costs such as rent labor and transportation, forcing them to take this step. They have warned that unless their demands are addressed, further protests could be planned.
The situation has drawn attention from both consumers and industry stakeholders, as the outcome of this dispute could impact pricing and supply dynamics in the poultry sector across Telangana.
