In a major boost for women empowerment, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced a large scale financial support plan aimed at strengthening women self help groups across the state.
The government has set a target to provide zero interest loans worth one lakh crore to women groups over the next three years. He also stated that if required, the amount could be increased to one and a half lakh crore depending on demand and implementation progress.
Officials revealed that the government has already distributed loans worth fifty seven thousand crore, with the state bearing the entire interest burden. So far, over one thousand crore has been paid by the government towards interest, and additional funds have been allocated in the latest budget to continue the support.
Speaking at a press interaction held at the Secretariat, Bhatti Vikramarka emphasized that the government is committed to fulfilling all promises made to the people, despite financial challenges. He pointed out that welfare remains a top priority for the administration.
Highlighting another key initiative, he said that free bus travel for women has resulted in significant savings. Women across Telangana have collectively saved nearly ten thousand crore through this scheme, while the government has compensated the transport corporation to sustain its operations.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also stated that despite financial pressures, the government is successfully implementing the Mahalakshmi scheme and working to stabilize the transport sector. Efforts are ongoing to address financial issues while ensuring employee welfare and smooth functioning.
Meanwhile, Minister Seethakka criticized opposition leaders for questioning welfare initiatives. She said that women who benefit from such schemes will themselves respond to criticism and support the government’s efforts.
The leadership reiterated that welfare programs will continue without interruption and assured that no matter the challenges, the government will ensure benefits reach the people, especially women who are at the center of these initiatives.
