  • Government clarification on MMTS free travel issued to public
  • No final decision on MMTS free travel yet confirmed

Speculation around free travel in Hyderabad’s MMTS trains has been put to rest for now, with the Telangana government confirming that no final decision has been made on the proposal.

In recent days, widespread claims suggested that passengers would soon be allowed to travel free of cost on MMTS services starting from June 2, coinciding with Telangana Formation Day. These reports gained traction across social media platforms, leading to confusion among daily commuters.

Responding to the buzz, the state government clarified that the idea of free MMTS travel is still at a preliminary stage. Officials stated that discussions are ongoing between the Telangana government and South Central Railway, but the proposal has not yet moved beyond evaluation.

As part of the process, the state’s urban development authorities have formally communicated their proposal to railway officials, requesting consideration for free travel facilities in MMTS trains. However, railway authorities have pointed out that several operational and technical aspects need to be addressed before any such plan can move forward.

Sources indicate that South Central Railway has asked the state government to submit a detailed agreement outlining the terms and conditions of implementation. This includes clarity on train frequency, scheduling, and station infrastructure, all of which must align with railway board regulations.

Importantly, the final approval does not rest at the regional level alone. Any decision regarding free travel will require clearance from the Railway Board, making the process more layered and time consuming.

The government has also cautioned the public against believing unverified information circulating online. Officials emphasized that misleading claims are being spread without confirmation, and commuters should rely only on official announcements for accurate updates.

For now, the proposal remains under consideration, and clarity on free MMTS travel in Hyderabad is expected only after all approvals and formalities are completed.
