Date:

HYDERABAD, JULY 28 (NSS): Minister for Agriculture Singireddy Niranjan Reddy said there is a need to increase the mechanization in the agriculture sector and to educate the farmers in a big way on the use of technology and innovative methods for the smart cultivation of agriculture. Minister Niranjan Reddy, who was on a two-day study tour in Gujarat to encourage the mechanization in the agriculture sector, on Thursday visited the Shaktiman Industry in Rajkot and observed its agricultural implements designed for the domestic conditions in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Niranjan Reddy said that in the combined Andhra Pradesh, farmers used to work as daily wage laborers and there was no support for the agriculture sector. However, the situation changed completely after the formation of the Telangana State. With the construction of lift irrigation projects, water facility has improved drastically across the Telangana State and the government has provided additional 80,000 acres of new ayacut in the State. With this, farmers are returning back to their native villages and have started cultivating agriculture Even though it is a good sign that the cultivation area has increased in Telangana, farmers are facing a scarcity of agricultural laborers. They are forced to depend on laborers belonging to other States.

At this juncture, there is a need of promoting farm mechanization on a large scale and the State government is also taking several steps in this regard to encourage farmers in a big way.
