  • Rs 255 crore plan focuses on spiritual tourism
  • Ropeway and lake tourism projects planned in Nalgonda

Nalgonda is likely to witness a major tourism transformation as municipal authorities prepared a comprehensive Rs 255 crore proposal aimed at developing the town into a prominent tourism destination in Telangana.

Officials said the project takes advantage of Nalgonda’s historic temples, scenic hill locations and water bodies that already attract visitors during festive and auspicious occasions. Popular heritage sites including Chaya Someshwaralayam and Pachhala Someshwaralayam at Panagal are expected to receive upgraded infrastructure and tourism facilities under the proposal.

The plan also focuses heavily on spiritual tourism. Latheef Saheb Hill and Brahmamgari Gutta have been identified for development as major pilgrimage and tourist spots. Authorities are currently carrying out ghat road works to improve access to these hill destinations.

One of the biggest attractions in the proposal is a ropeway project planned between Latheef Saheb Hill and Kapuralagutta with an estimated cost of Rs 118 crore. Municipal officials believe the project could become a key tourist highlight in the district.

Apart from spiritual tourism, the proposal also includes lake tourism development at the Udayasamudram Balancing Reservoir. Funds have been allocated for beautification works, visitor facilities and improvement of surrounding areas to increase tourist footfall.

Nalgonda mayor Burri Chaithanya said the proposal was prepared following directions from Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy. He stated that the minister assured support for obtaining state government approval and sanctioning funds for the tourism projects.

The proposal additionally includes road expansion works, development of major junctions and improvements to heritage structures around Panagal. An archaeological museum near Pachhala Someshwaralayam is also expected to receive upgrades as part of the tourism plan.

Social activist Gundu Venkateshwarlu welcomed the proposal and stressed the need to promote local art forms like Tholubommalata. He urged authorities to establish a mini arts and crafts village in Nalgonda to preserve traditional culture and create employment opportunities for local artists.
