Hyderabad Bengaluru Bullet Train Likely to Pass Through Srisailam Corridor

The proposed Hyderabad Bengaluru bullet train corridor may now pass through Srisailam and Somasila after route changes aimed at improving tourism and railway access in underserved regions.

  • Hyderabad Bengaluru bullet train route revised
  • Srisailam and Somasila added to corridor
  • Telangana gets five bullet train stations

The proposed bullet train project connecting Hyderabad and Bengaluru is moving ahead quickly, with officials completing most of the preliminary alignment survey work for the high speed rail corridor.

The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the two major IT cities while also improving connectivity in regions that currently lack proper railway infrastructure. The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited is handling the survey and planning process for the mega corridor.

Initially, the proposed route was planned through Shamshabad, Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthy Road and Kurnool before reaching Bengaluru. However, the Telangana government suggested major changes to the alignment.

According to state officials, the Mahabubnagar region already has strong railway connectivity through the existing rail network. Instead of repeating the same route, the government requested the Centre to consider areas that still do not have railway access and also hold tourism potential.

Accepting the proposal, the Centre is now considering a revised route through Shamshabad, Future City near Mucherla and Mannanur towards Srisailam. From there, the corridor is expected to pass through Somasila before entering Andhra Pradesh and connecting to Kurnool.

The total length of the Hyderabad Bengaluru bullet train corridor is expected to be around 607 kilometres. Out of this, nearly 205 kilometres of track will pass through Telangana.

Officials have also proposed five modern bullet train stations within Telangana. These stations are likely to come up at Shamshabad, Bharat Future City, Amangal, Mannanur and Somasila.

Meanwhile, authorities are studying two route options between Kokapet and Shamshabad. One option passes along the Outer Ring Road, while another is being examined outside the ORR limits.
