CSIR-IICT Ready To Partner With NTPC On Green Energy

Hyderabad: National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited plans to forge collaboration with the city-based CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, mainly in the area of green hydrogen produced through renewable energy.
The Chairman & Managing Director of NTPC, Gurdeep Singh, joined the event online and said the Corporation wishes to partner with CSIR-IICT to deliver viable solutions for the power sector. Currently, electricity demand is met through fossil fuels thereby making reduction of carbon dioxide emission a major challenge. Therefore, the focus is on renewable energy sector to meet the demand, and also ensure carbon capture and storage, which is a potential way to reduce the emission of CO2.
Dr D Srinivasa Reddy, Director of CSIR-IICT, said “CSIT-IICT is engaged in carbon capture and sequestration, green hydrogen through bio & photo catalytic routes, energy storage and circular economy.” He said CSIR-IICT is ready to collaborate with NTPC, there by forging another industry-academia partnership.
DMR Panda, General Manager (Hydrogen/RE), NTPC Limited, said NTPC on a trial basis has begun operating buses on hydrogen fuel. They have started the trials runs at Leh and Delhi. He said there is a need to develop technology to make equipment such as hydrogen compressors that are imported currently. He proposed that CSIR- IICT along with the support of industry can play a major role in these areas, and gradually reduce waiting time and imports and make the Nation self-reliant in hydrogen production. Coinciding with the National Science Day celebrations, CSIR-IICT held a curtain raiser event for the “One Week One Lab” campaign scheduled during March 7th to March 12th at the institute. The ‘One Week One Lab’ (OWOL) campaign offers an opportunity for CSIR-IICT to showcase its accomplishments and competancies thereby ensuring public and various stakeholders are exposed to their contributions in technology development and deployed. The weeklong event at CSIR-IICT will be inaugurated on March 7th by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister for S & T. On 8th March (Wednesday) , the second day of the event coincides with the International Women’s Day. On this occasion, woman achievers from different walks of life such as arts, science, entrepreneurs, social welfare will share their experiences. On March 9th, 2023, the third day of OWOL, a Kisan Mela and Technologies for society are scheduled. This event will highlight the societal technologies such as Pheromone Application, Anaerobic Gas lift Reactor, Accelerated Anaerobic Composting, Water purification and other technologies developed and commercialised by CSIR-IICT for the benefit of rural entrepreneurs and enhancing their livelihood.On fourth day of OWOL, March 10 (Friday), A Young Researchers Conclave is organized with an aim to expose college and university students to frontier areas of research engaged by young researchers at CSIR-IICT. On Day 5, 11th March, (Saturday) a panel discussion by experts is scheduled on Science Communication, Outreach and Ethics in Science to discuss the importance of science Communication and ethics and encourage research scholars and scientists to follow best practices in research.Valedictory function will be on March 12, the 6th day of OWOL.Exhibition of Archives, theme wise posters, products and demonstrations will be open to students of schools, colleges and universities and general public throughout the week. This is a wonderful opportunity to know about the activities and services of CSIR-IICT.
Dr Samir Dave, Director Amico Pesticides, said each scientist is an ambassador of science, and they are the right persons to take science popularization to the common people.
Dr Nettem V Choudary, Distinguished Scientist of CSIR-IICT, said a good foundation in science is required to deliver sustainable technologies.
