Bengaluru: A dramatic incident unfolded in the heart of Bengaluru on Friday morning when a man attempted suicide outside the Vidhana Soudha, accusing the police of harassment. The incident triggered panic in the high security zone and prompted immediate intervention by on duty personnel.

The man has been identified as Dr Nagendra, who reportedly consumed poison in public view while alleging sustained harassment by police officials. He was immediately stopped by Vidhana Soudha police officers, who seized the poison bottle and rushed him to Bowring Hospital. Doctors have confirmed that his condition remains serious and he is undergoing treatment.

According to preliminary information, Dr Nagendra claimed he was targeted after helping identify illegal Bangladeshi migrants residing in parts of Bengaluru. He and another individual Puneeth Kerehalli had reportedly shared information with authorities regarding suspected illegal migrants in the city.

Sources said that instead of action being taken on the information provided, cases were allegedly registered against those who raised the complaints. Dr Nagendra is said to have faced repeated questioning and pressure from Soladevanahalli police, which allegedly led to emotional distress and his extreme step.

The incident is also linked to earlier developments involving Puneeth Kerehalli, a right wing activist who was arrested following a complaint related to suspected illegal migrants in Kempapura under the Soladevanahalli police station limits. Puneeth had accused an individual named Hasan of being an illegal migrant and had approached the police with the information.

Police officials have confirmed that a case has been registered regarding the suicide attempt and a detailed inquiry is underway. Authorities said all allegations will be examined thoroughly and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
