Chain Collision on Tumakuru Kunigal Highway Leaves Two Dead and Nine Injured Including DySP

Karnataka, Tumakuru: A calm Sunday evening turned tragic on the busy Tumakuru Kunigal highway when a sudden chain collision near Nagavalli village claimed two lives and left nine others injured, including DySP Ramakrishnappa. The stretch, usually crowded with returning vehicles, quickly turned chaotic as damaged cars blocked the road and locals rushed to help.
According to police, the injured were immediately shifted to the district hospital for treatment. Doctors confirmed that all nine victims are receiving care and are under observation. Among the injured is a woman, adding to the seriousness of the incident. Emergency teams worked for hours to clear the vehicles and restore traffic.
Preliminary findings suggest that a car travelling from Chitradurga towards Mysuru attempted to overtake another vehicle at speed. During the risky maneuver, it collided head on with an oncoming car. The impact triggered a series of crashes involving multiple vehicles, leading to the deadly chain reaction.
The deceased have been identified as Suresh, a 55 year old real estate businessman from Yadavanagar, and Murali, a 60 year old contractor from Ashokanagar. Both were returning home after attending a program in the Adichunchanagiri area of Nagamangala taluk when the accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses described the moment as sudden and frightening, with loud crashes and shattered glass scattered across the road. Local residents assisted the victims before ambulances arrived, highlighting the human response in a tense situation.
Hebbur police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation to determine responsibility. Officials have urged motorists to drive cautiously on highways, especially while overtaking, to prevent such devastating incidents in the future.
