Chikkamagaluru Woman Arrested for Blackmailing Prominent Swami Over Money Demand

Bengaluru City Crime Branch police have arrested a young woman from Chikkamagaluru on charges of blackmailing a well known swami of a reputed monastery and extorting money by threatening reputational damage.
According to police officials, the accused, identified as Spoorthi, first contacted the swami about five months ago. She reportedly introduced herself as a student pursuing her studies in Tiptur and gradually built communication through regular calls and online chats.
As the interaction continued, investigators said the woman began demanding money and allegedly threatened to defame the swami if her demands were not met. When the swami visited Bengaluru, she is said to have collected Rs 4.5 lakh from him and later increased the pressure by demanding Rs one crore.
Distressed by repeated harassment and threats, the swami approached the CCB police and filed a formal complaint. After registering a case, officers traced the communication trail, verified financial transactions, and arrested the accused woman. She has since been produced before a court and sent to judicial custody.
Police sources also revealed that the same swami had faced a similar honey trap attempt two years ago, when three individuals were arrested for allegedly demanding a much larger sum. In the current case, the swami has approached the court and secured an order restraining the circulation of any photos or videos linked to him.
