Claims Surface About Bangladeshi Settlements Across 60 Areas in Bengaluru
Reports submitted to the Union Home Ministry claim Bangladeshi migrants have settled across multiple Bengaluru locations and coffee estates, raising security and documentation concerns, according to BJP leader NR Ramesh.

Karnataka, Bengaluru: Fresh claims regarding illegal Bangladeshi migrants living in Karnataka have triggered political debate, with Bengaluru said to be at the centre of the issue. BJP leader NR Ramesh has stated that detailed information, supported by documents, has been shared with the Union Home Ministry.
According to Ramesh, recent field level inquiries conducted with the help of social activist Sudhir Shetty revealed disturbing details. The findings reportedly explain how migrants are brought into the state and the methods used to obtain Aadhaar cards, ration cards and voter identity documents. He said the same information would also be formally submitted to the state government.
The claims suggest that more than 60 locations within Bengaluru city have Bangladeshi settlements, particularly in the outskirts where many are said to be living in temporary sheds. The Jigani area has been highlighted as a major hub, with thousands reportedly residing and working there under assumed local identities.
Beyond Bengaluru, large numbers of Bangladeshi migrants are allegedly employed as daily wage labourers in coffee estates across Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Shivamogga and Kodagu districts. Similar settlements are also claimed to exist in cities such as Hubballi, Belagavi and Mangaluru.
Ramesh further alleged that some migrants operate organisations using local names and regularly communicate with contacts in Bangladesh through messaging apps and international calls. He pointed out that Jigani police recently traced such settlements and initiated legal action.
Stressing the seriousness of the issue, the BJP leader urged both the state and central governments to take strict and coordinated measures against illegal Bangladeshi migrants, citing concerns related to security, identity misuse and law enforcement.
