HD Devegowda Accuses Congress of Targeting JD(S) in Karnataka
Former prime minister HD Devegowda alleged that the Congress government in Karnataka is trying to weaken JD(S), asserting that decades of public support have sustained his party over many years.

Karnataka: Senior JD(S) leader and former prime minister HD Devegowda has alleged that the Congress government in Karnataka is making deliberate attempts to weaken and marginalise his party. He said such efforts would not succeed as JD(S) continues to draw strength from public support.
Speaking to national media on Saturday, Devegowda recalled his long political journey and credited the people of Karnataka for every opportunity he received. He said his rise from being an MLA to serving as the prime minister was possible only because of the trust and blessings of the people. At 93, he added, this is something he will remember till his last breath.
Devegowda made these remarks while attending a religious ceremony at the Deveshwara temple in Haradanahalli village of Holenarasipur taluk in Hassan district. The event was organised at his family deity’s temple and was attended by party leaders and supporters.
He claimed that over the last two and a half years, the Congress government held two major meetings in Hassan district with the intention of finishing JD(S). Despite this, he said the party survived and moved forward due to the backing of the people and the dedication of its workers.
Referring to efforts to revive and protect the party, Devegowda said a Janata convention was organised on the outskirts of Hassan as part of JD(S)’ 25th anniversary celebrations. He praised party leaders and workers for coming together to make the event successful. Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and senior leader HD Revanna were also present at the programme.
