  • HCA president appointment brings administrative stability.
  • Ombudsman order clears leadership vacuum at HCA.
  • Amarnath returns after narrow election loss.

The Hyderabad Cricket Association appointed Amarnath as its new president following an order from the BCCI appointed ombudsman, ending months of administrative uncertainty.

The HCA top post had remained vacant after former president Jaganmohan Rao was arrested, leaving the association without elected leadership. During this period, internal functioning and key decisions were largely on hold, prompting calls for clarity and continuity.

Amarnath approached the ombudsman seeking appointment to the vacant post, citing the leadership vacuum and the need for stable administration. After reviewing the request and the prevailing situation, the ombudsman issued official directions appointing Amarnath as the new HCA president.

The development is significant given the close contest in the last HCA elections held on October 20 2023. In that election, Jaganmohan Rao secured the presidency by a margin of just one vote over Amarnath. Out of 173 eligible votes, 169 were polled, with Rao receiving 63 votes and Amarnath 62.

With the new appointment, HCA officials and cricket stakeholders expect smoother governance and renewed focus on domestic cricket operations in Hyderabad. The leadership change is seen as a step toward restoring confidence and normalcy within the association.
