Senior IPS officer C V Anand officially assumed charge as the Director General of Police of Telangana on Friday at the state police headquarters in Hyderabad, marking a transition in top leadership.

His appointment comes after the retirement of outgoing DGP B Shivadhar Reddy, who demitted office on April 30 upon reaching superannuation. The state government finalised Anand’s elevation in line with the Supreme Court guidelines laid down in the Prakash Singh case, ensuring due process in senior police appointments.

A 1991 batch IPS officer, Anand brings decades of policing experience to the role. His career began with his first posting as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Warangal, followed by his tenure as district superintendent of police in Nizamabad. Over the years, he has handled several key assignments across the state.

During the early phase of his service, Anand spent nearly nine years working in Naxal affected regions. Officials recall that he actively led operations on the ground and was directly involved in field level policing during challenging law and order situations.

Anand’s academic journey also reflects a strong foundation. He completed his schooling at Hyderabad Public School, graduated from Nizam College, and pursued a masters degree in economics from Osmania University before entering the civil services on his first attempt.

With his appointment, the Telangana police department enters a new phase of leadership, with expectations of continuity in administration and focus on law enforcement priorities across the state.
