A tragic road accident on Hyderabad’s cable bridge has once again raised serious concerns about reckless driving, after a young man lost his life in a high speed collision.
The incident took place early Sunday morning when a speeding Mercedes Benz car reportedly lost control and rammed into a man who was standing on the bridge. The victim, identified as Shyam Raj, was spending time with his wife and had paused briefly to take photographs when the accident occurred.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the car was moving at a very high speed from the Jubilee Hills side towards the IT corridor when it struck him with force. The impact threw him onto the road, leaving him with severe injuries.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by locals, where doctors made every effort to save him. Despite treatment, he succumbed to his injuries later in the day, leaving his family devastated.
The driver responsible for the accident fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. Police have registered a case and launched a search operation to trace the accused using surveillance footage and other evidence.
Authorities are also investigating whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or fatigued at the time of the crash. The incident has triggered outrage among residents, who have pointed to increasing cases of rash driving, especially during late night and early morning hours.
Locals have demanded stricter enforcement against overspeeding and drunk driving, stating that irresponsible behavior on roads is putting innocent lives at risk.
In a separate incident the same day, a van collided with a school bus in another part of the district. Fortunately, no students were inside the bus at the time, preventing a major tragedy, though a few people sustained injuries.
The back to back incidents have once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger road safety measures and responsible driving practices across the city.
