Hyderabad Elevated Corridor Gains Speed, Travel Time Set to Drop Sharply

Fast paced construction on Secunderabad elevated corridor promises major traffic relief, reducing travel time drastically, with tunnel works planned and connectivity to northern Telangana improving for commuters next year.

Hyderabad is moving closer to easing one of its most persistent traffic bottlenecks as work on the elevated corridor between Paradise in Secunderabad and Dairy Farm on NH 44 gathers pace. Officials are pushing to complete the project by next year, aiming to transform daily commutes for thousands of travelers.

The corridor, being developed by Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, is expected to dramatically cut travel time on this busy stretch. What currently takes between 45 minutes and an hour during peak congestion could soon be reduced to just 10 to 15 minutes once the project becomes operational.

Construction activity has picked up momentum, with around 20 pillars already completed along the route. A critical component of the project lies near Begumpet Airport, where authorities are preparing to build a 600 meter underground tunnel. Due to aviation safety restrictions, an elevated structure is not feasible in this stretch, prompting planners to opt for a tunnel beneath the runway after receiving approvals from Airports Authority of India.

The infrastructure push does not stop there. Another tunnel is also planned near Hakimpet to ensure uninterrupted connectivity. Meanwhile, a second corridor stretching from Paradise to Shamirpet Outer Ring Road is in the pipeline. Work on this 18 kilometer stretch is expected to accelerate once land transfer from the Defence Ministry is completed.

With an estimated cost of Rs 1478 crore, the project is set to benefit commuters traveling towards northern Telangana districts such as Nizamabad, Adilabad, and Karimnagar. The improved road network is expected to eliminate long-standing traffic snarls and provide smoother transit out of the city.

In a parallel development, Hyderabad commuters have received another boost with the inauguration of the Shastripuram Railway Over Bridge. The project, executed by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, was opened by Duddilla Sridhar Babu. Built at a cost of around Rs 71 crore, the 490 meter long four lane bridge is designed to resolve congestion caused by railway level crossings.

This new bridge is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Mailardevpally, Falaknuma, and nearby areas. Earlier delays caused by railway gate closures often led to long traffic queues, but the new structure now offers a permanent solution, ensuring smoother and faster movement for vehicles across the route.

Together, these infrastructure upgrades signal a major shift in Hyderabad’s urban mobility, promising faster, safer, and more efficient travel for residents and intercity commuters alike.
