Hyderabad police have launched a major crackdown by conducting drug tests on rowdy sheeters across the city, following a rise in criminal activities linked to substance abuse. The move comes as part of a broader effort to tighten surveillance and curb illegal behavior.

Under the direction of Police Commissioner CV Anand Sajjanar, authorities initiated drug screening for individuals listed as rowdy sheeters within the commissionerate limits. Officials revealed that the city currently has more than 1300 such individuals under watch.

So far, drug tests have been conducted on over 250 rowdy sheeters, with alarming results. Police confirmed that around 190 individuals tested positive for ganja, raising serious concerns about the role of drug use in criminal activities.

Based on these findings, the police have decided to intensify action against drug suppliers operating in the city. Officials stated that identifying and dismantling supply networks will be a key focus in the coming days.

The initiative reflects a shift towards preventive policing, aiming not only to monitor repeat offenders but also to address the root causes of crime. Authorities believe that tackling drug abuse among habitual offenders will help in reducing law and order issues.

Police officials have also indicated that the testing drive will continue in phases, covering more individuals in the coming weeks. The crackdown is expected to send a strong message and act as a deterrent against both drug abuse and related criminal activities.
