A dramatic incident in Hyderabad has raised fresh questions over prisoner security after a remand inmate managed to escape while being transported back to jail. The escape happened in broad daylight, drawing sharp attention to lapses during the transfer process.
The prisoner, identified as Naresh, was earlier lodged in Chanchalguda Jail in connection with a theft case. He, along with two other accused, had been taken to the Bowenpally Police Station on a PT warrant. After completing formalities, jail staff began transporting all three back to the prison.
As the vehicle approached the Chanchalguda area, it briefly stopped at a traffic signal. In that moment, Naresh reportedly noticed a lapse in attention from the escorting staff and seized the opportunity. He suddenly jumped out of the vehicle and fled, leaving officials caught off guard.
Police personnel immediately attempted to chase him on the road, but he managed to escape. Authorities confirmed that the other two accused remained in custody and were safely returned to jail without incident.
The escape has triggered widespread concern across the city, especially given that it occurred in a busy area during daytime. Officials have since launched an intensive search operation to trace Naresh, deploying teams across Hyderabad.
Security has been tightened at major junctions, bus stations, and railway hubs. Police are also examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to track the escape route and movements of the accused.
Senior officials have been informed about the incident, and a detailed review of the security lapse is expected. The Hyderabad prisoner escape has now become a major talking point, with questions being raised about standard procedures during inmate transport.
