A new mobile application called Livability has been developed by IIIT Hyderabad to help people choose the most suitable residential areas in Hyderabad based on their lifestyle needs and essential facilities. The app is expected to become especially useful for those moving to the city for jobs, education or relocation.
Finding the right place to live in a large city like Hyderabad is often difficult for newcomers as they struggle to gather reliable information about schools, hospitals, transport facilities and environmental conditions. To address this issue, researchers and officials from the Product Labs team at IIIT Hyderabad created the Livability app using official and verified data sources.
The application allows users to instantly access information about government and private schools, hospitals, public transport systems, drinking water availability, air quality and nearby public facilities. Instead of searching across multiple platforms, users can view complete area wise details through a single interface.
According to the developers, the app has been designed to guide residents based on their financial capacity and personal preferences. It can help people compare different neighbourhoods and identify locations that offer better quality of life, connectivity and environmental conditions.
Researchers collected trusted data from the Telangana government and several private organisations while developing the software. The platform also includes details related to metro and bus connectivity, cinema theatres, educational institutions and other urban infrastructure indicators that influence daily life in metropolitan cities.
Officials said the software is currently in the experimental stage and will soon be made available free of cost to the public. Experts believe the app could become an important tool for transparent urban planning and informed decision making among citizens.
Developers also highlighted that the Livability app goes beyond basic information gathering and acts as a detailed urban analysis platform. People planning to buy or rent homes can check air quality levels, water access and public infrastructure in advance before making decisions. Since the information is based on official data, the platform is expected to provide accurate and dependable insights for residents across Hyderabad.
