A tragic road accident in Bhadradri Kothagudem has claimed two lives and left four others injured, raising concerns over road safety in the region.
The incident took place in Aswaraopet mandal near a Rythu Vedika centre, where a lorry travelling from Khammam towards Kakinada rammed into a tractor carrying several people.
According to officials, the victims were travelling on the tractor when the speeding lorry collided with it. The impact was severe, leading to the immediate death of two individuals at the scene.
The deceased have been identified as Kovvasi Nagaraju aged 41 and Chittu Chukkaiah aged 52, both residents of Aswaraopet. Four others sustained injuries in the crash and were rushed to the Government General Hospital in Khammam for treatment.
The injured were identified as Soyam Ramesh, Madakam Santhosh, Madakam Somaraj and Gaddala Venkat Rao. Doctors are currently monitoring their condition as they undergo treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that the lorry driver fled the scene soon after the accident, leaving the victims behind. Police from Aswaraopet reached the spot shortly after receiving information and initiated rescue operations.
A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities are also working to trace the absconding driver.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of road safety measures to prevent such accidents and protect lives on highways.
