  • Two deaths linked to pet cat emotional distress cases.
  • Hyderabad incidents raise concern on mental health awareness.

Hyderabad has been shaken by two tragic incidents involving young women who died by suicide, both linked to emotional distress over pet cats. The cases have raised serious concerns about mental health and the intensity of emotional attachment in such situations.

In one incident, an MBBS student named Shreshta ended her life at her residence in Alwal. According to reports, she had been deeply attached to her pet cat. A disagreement with her mother over keeping the cat at home reportedly left her distressed, leading to the extreme step. Her parents found her lifeless, leaving the family devastated as she was preparing for her future medical career.

In a separate case reported from Meerpet, another young woman, Himabindu, died after consuming poison. She had been caring for a pet cat for nearly two years and was emotionally attached to it. The sudden death of the cat left her unable to cope, and despite being rushed to the hospital, doctors confirmed her death.

These back to back incidents within a short span have drawn attention to the emotional vulnerability faced by individuals, especially young people dealing with stress and attachment. While pets often provide comfort and companionship, experts note that extreme emotional dependence can sometimes lead to distress when faced with conflict or loss.

The incidents have sparked discussions about the need for better emotional support systems within families and greater awareness about mental health. Authorities and communities are urging people to seek help and support during difficult times rather than taking irreversible decisions.

The loss of two young lives, including a student on the path to becoming a doctor, has left the city in grief and highlighted the importance of understanding emotional wellbeing in today’s fast changing world.
