Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is scheduled to visit New Delhi to accelerate the long pending Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2 expansion project and seek immediate approvals from the Central government.
During the visit, the Chief Minister is expected to meet Union Urban Development Minister and urge the Centre to clear the Detailed Project Reports related to Metro Phase 2A and 2B without further delay. The Telangana government believes there are no longer any administrative or technical hurdles in moving ahead with the expansion.
The state recently completed the purchase of the remaining shares in Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 1 and officially took full control of the project on April 30. With the government now fully managing the existing metro operations, officials say earlier concerns linked to private participation have been resolved.
Senior officials in the state government have already communicated this development to the Centre. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao reportedly sent a detailed letter explaining that the Telangana government now has complete ownership of the metro system, making the approval process for the second phase smoother.
The proposed expansion includes major connectivity projects such as extending metro services to the Old City and linking the network to Hyderabad airport. The government believes the expansion will significantly ease traffic congestion and improve public transportation across the city.
Sources said the state government may also request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone for the metro expansion during his expected visit to Hyderabad in the coming months.
Apart from metro related discussions, Revanth Reddy is also expected to raise several pending issues concerning Telangana during his Delhi tour. These include requests for pending Central funds, unresolved matters linked to state bifurcation promises and additional support from the Union government.
Political observers view the Chief Minister’s visit as an important step for Hyderabad’s urban development plans and the state’s broader financial interests.
