Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is set to visit the Kaleshwaram project on April 20, marking a key development in the ongoing review of the state’s major irrigation infrastructure. The visit will focus on assessing the condition of the Medigadda barrage, which had earlier suffered structural damage.
During the tour, the Chief Minister will personally inspect the barrage and review the progress of restoration works with engineering officials. He is expected to examine the structural components, including piers affected during the incident, and discuss corrective measures to ensure long term stability.
The Kaleshwaram project, considered one of the largest lift irrigation schemes, has remained at the center of political debate. Allegations of irregularities and construction flaws surfaced after the Medigadda barrage issue came to light, especially during the 2023 elections. While opposition parties raised concerns, the previous administration has denied all allegations.
A commission led by Justice PC Ghose had been appointed by the current government to investigate the project. The panel has already submitted its report, although the matter is now under legal scrutiny with a petition filed in the Telangana High Court. A final verdict in the case is awaited.
Alongside the inspection, the Chief Minister will also review arrangements for the upcoming Saraswati Pushkaralu at the Godavari river. Officials have been instructed to ensure proper facilities and smooth management for devotees attending the event.
The visit will conclude with a public meeting where Revanth Reddy is expected to address key issues related to the Kaleshwaram project and outline future plans. His speech may include announcements on development initiatives and infrastructure improvements.
Preparations for the visit are being closely monitored by IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, who has reviewed security and event arrangements with district and police officials. Authorities have been directed to ensure that all aspects of the visit proceed without any lapses.
The upcoming tour is being seen as a significant step in evaluating the future of the Kaleshwaram project while addressing public concerns and ensuring accountability.
