Telangana is preparing to witness a major transformation in its road infrastructure with the launch of the Telangana first hi tech highway. The new expressway is expected to significantly improve connectivity and travel convenience for commuters across the region.
The upcoming highway will connect Khammam in Telangana with Devarapalli in Andhra Pradesh. Spanning around 162.4 kilometers the project has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 4451.87 crore. Once operational it will become the first green field express highway in Telangana and also the first hi tech highway across the Telugu states.
Construction work on the project has progressed rapidly and officials indicate that the highway may be opened to the public by June. Authorities are making final preparations to ensure that the road becomes accessible to travelers soon.
The Telangana first hi tech highway is expected to benefit long distance travelers especially those commuting from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam. Currently many travelers use the route through Suryapet and Vijayawada which stretches about 676 kilometers. The new highway is expected to shorten the travel distance by nearly 80 kilometers.
In addition to reducing travel distance the new route will help motorists avoid heavy traffic congestion allowing faster and smoother journeys toward coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The project was initially proposed in 2017 and received approval from the central government in 2018. At present about 116 kilometers of the highway construction has been completed and the remaining work is expected to finish soon.
Designed as a four lane express highway the project includes several modern safety and infrastructure features. Authorities have planned emergency median openings along the route along with a dedicated emergency helpline number 1033 for travelers.
The highway will include 98 underpasses and 295 culverts to ensure smooth vehicle movement and better drainage systems. Advanced AI based surveillance cameras are also being installed to enhance road safety and monitoring.
Every 18 kilometers the expressway will have designated entry and exit points allowing controlled access to vehicles. Barricading along the route will prevent unauthorized crossings improving overall road safety.
Officials believe the Telangana first hi tech highway will also boost economic activity in Khammam district. Improved connectivity is expected to attract industries and create new employment opportunities for local youth in the region.
