The Telangana government has once again brought relief and cheer to women across the state by continuing the Indiramma Free Sarees Scheme in 2026. The initiative, which began last year, will now see a fresh rollout with notable changes in design and color, reflecting a renewed approach by the administration.

Unlike the previous year’s blue sarees, officials have finalized a new parrot green shade with an attractive red zari pattern for this year’s distribution. The decision was taken after reviewing multiple samples prepared by officials, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy personally selecting the final design to ensure a fresh look for beneficiaries.

The government has placed a massive order worth Rs 450 crore for the production of nearly one crore sarees. The manufacturing work will be handled by handloom workers across key textile hubs such as Sirisilla, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Karimnagar, Jagityal, Peddapalli, and Mancherial, providing significant employment opportunities alongside the welfare benefit.

Authorities plan to complete production by October, ensuring timely distribution on November 19, marking the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi. This date has been retained to maintain continuity with last year’s rollout.

In a shift from earlier practice, the government has decided to distribute sarees simultaneously to both rural and urban women this time, streamlining the process and ensuring equal access. Last year, over 86 lakh women benefited from the scheme, and similar large-scale coverage is expected again.

The continuation of the Indiramma Free Sarees Scheme highlights the state’s focus on welfare while also supporting local weaving communities. With a new color, upgraded design, and large-scale execution, the 2026 edition aims to combine tradition with thoughtful change.
