In a significant push to encourage sports in the state, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced a new policy that promises government jobs for sportspersons who achieve excellence in their respective fields.
The announcement was made during the Telangana Legislators Sports and Cultural Meet 2026, where the Chief Minister emphasized that students should see sports not just as a passion but also as a viable career path alongside academics. He said the government aims to create confidence among young athletes about their future.
As part of the policy, outstanding sportspersons will receive not only government job opportunities but also financial incentives. The initiative is expected to motivate more youth to actively participate in sports and strive for higher achievements.
Highlighting infrastructure development, the Chief Minister revealed that the Gachibowli Sports Complex is being upgraded with an investment of around 700 crore rupees. The project is intended to provide world class facilities and strengthen Telangana’s position in the sports sector.
At the same time, he raised concerns about increasing substance abuse among students, noting that such issues are affecting even university campuses and causing distress to families. He stressed the need for awareness and preventive measures.
The Chief Minister also expressed disappointment over some legislators skipping the event, calling it unfortunate. However, he remained hopeful that participation would improve in future editions, reinforcing the importance of sports and cultural engagement in public life.
