Telangana Government Raises Age Limit for Government Jobs

The Telangana government has announced a major relief for unemployed youth by increasing the upper age limit for direct recruitment government jobs across various departments. With the latest decision, candidates can now apply for many state government posts until the age of 44 instead of the earlier limit of 34 years.
The government issued official orders extending the age relaxation for another year to help more job seekers participate in upcoming recruitment drives. The move comes after continuous appeals and protests from unemployed candidates demanding an extension in eligibility criteria.
According to the orders released by Special Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, the revised age limit will apply to fresh recruitment notifications issued through different recruitment boards. However, the relaxation will not be applicable to uniformed services such as police, excise, fire, prisons, and forest departments due to physical fitness and service regulations.
The issue had recently gained political attention after a Public Service Commission notification for Assistant Scientist posts in the Pollution Control Board mentioned the age eligibility as 18 to 34 years. Opposition leaders and unemployed groups strongly objected to the notification and warned of large scale protests if the government failed to revise the age criteria.
Earlier, the government had issued GO 30 in February 2024, temporarily extending the upper age limit to 46 years for a limited period. After that order expired in February 2026, the age limit reverted to the original 34 years, creating concern among aspirants waiting for recruitment notifications.
Facing growing pressure from unemployed youth and criticism from opposition parties, the state government finally decided to revise the age limit again. Officials said the decision was taken to ensure that more eligible candidates receive a fair opportunity to compete for government jobs in the coming recruitment cycle.
