- Online applications open from February 9.
Working journalists in Telangana have received a major update with the state government formally releasing the Telangana Media Accreditation Rules 2025, setting the stage for a fresh round of accreditation card applications.
The Telangana Government issued Government Order number 252 through the Information and Public Relations Department, inviting eligible journalists from print, electronic and digital media to apply online. The application process will begin on February 9 through the official I and PR department website.
As per the new rules, accreditation cards will be valid for a period of two years. To qualify, daily newspapers must have a minimum circulation of two thousand copies, while weekly and fortnightly publications should have been published continuously for at least eighteen months.
Special emphasis has been placed on inclusion and representation. Media organisations applying for desk journalist accreditation must ensure that at least thirty three percent of positions are allocated to women. Women journalists will also be given priority under the accreditation quota.
For digital media, eligibility has been clearly defined. Websites must have been operational for at least one year and should record an average of five lakh unique visitors per month during the last six months to qualify for accreditation.
The government has also specified that in case of loss of an accreditation card, journalists can apply for a duplicate or replacement by paying a fee of two hundred fifty rupees.
Officials said the updated rules aim to bring transparency, uniform standards and wider representation into the accreditation process, while recognising the growing role of digital media in Telangana’s information ecosystem.
