Telangana Launches TGRPDCL New Power Distribution Company for Farmers

The Telangana government has taken a major step to strengthen electricity distribution in the agricultural sector by establishing a new power distribution company. The newly formed Telangana Rythu Power Distribution Company Limited known as TGRPDCL has been created to improve power supply management for farmers and irrigation systems.

The state already operates two electricity distribution companies which are responsible for supplying power across different regions. These include the Southern Telangana Power Distribution Company and the Northern Telangana Power Distribution Company. With the addition of TGRPDCL the state now has a third distribution company dedicated mainly to agriculture related electricity needs.

The government officially announced the formation of TGRPDCL on March 11 2026. The registered office of the new company will operate from the B Block of the corporate office complex of the Southern Telangana Power Distribution Company.

Under the new structure several key electricity connections will come under the responsibility of TGRPDCL. These include agricultural power connections lift irrigation schemes water supply projects under Mission Bhagiratha and CPWS systems as well as electricity connections related to Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board operations.

Municipal water supply connections that fall under the LT VI B category will also be managed by the new distribution company. By centralizing these services the government aims to ensure more efficient monitoring and improved electricity supply for essential water and irrigation infrastructure.

TGRPDCL will handle several operational responsibilities including electricity procurement based on allocated power purchase agreements and providing new agricultural power connections to farmers. The company will also maintain distribution assets such as transformers and low tension lines within its operational area.

Another key responsibility will involve electricity consumption accounting through transformer level and consumer level metering systems particularly for organizations such as lift irrigation projects CPWS systems and water supply utilities.

The government has appointed senior IAS officer Musharraf Faruqui as the Chairman and Managing Director of TGRPDCL. He previously served as the CMD of the Southern Telangana Power Distribution Company and brings extensive experience in the power sector.

Several other officials have also been appointed to the governing board including V Tirupati Reddy P Krishna Reddy V Mohan Rao and Dr N Narasimhulu who have earlier worked as directors in the state power distribution companies.

To ensure smooth functioning the government has allowed the new company to recruit officers and staff through deputation direct recruitment or outsourcing depending on operational requirements.

Officials believe that the formation of TGRPDCL will help streamline electricity distribution for agriculture irrigation and water supply systems while improving efficiency in power management across Telangana.
