Ahead of the upcoming 2026 to 2027 academic year, Telangana has announced a major relief for students and parents with a significant reduction in textbook prices. The decision is expected to ease financial pressure on families preparing for the new school season.
The revised pricing applies to textbooks from Class 1 to Class 10, with reductions ranging between 15 percent and 20 percent. The lower prices are expected to help thousands of families manage educational expenses more comfortably.
Officials stated that the reduction became possible after printing companies quoted lower rates during the textbook printing tender process. Earlier, the printing cost per page stood at 54 paise, but it has now come down to 44.50 paise, leading to a noticeable decrease in overall book prices.
The impact of the revised prices is visible across several classes. The complete set of Class 10 books has seen a reduction of Rs 178. Similarly, Class 9 textbook sets dropped from Rs 927 to Rs 776, while Class 8 sets were reduced from Rs 825 to Rs 690.
Primary school students are also expected to benefit from the revised rates, with book set prices reduced by around Rs 35 to Rs 60. Subject wise changes were also introduced, with mathematics and social science textbooks recording lower prices than before.
Interestingly, the reduction has come at a time when raw material costs have reportedly increased. Despite this, publishers offered lower printing rates compared to previous years, helping bring down the final cost of textbooks for students.
With education related expenses continuing to rise in many areas, the reduction in textbook prices has come as welcome news for families and students preparing for the new academic year.
