According to preliminary information, the baby parents had been facing marital issues for several days. Following frequent arguments, the mother Neelamma had returned to her parental home along with the infant. The father later arrived in Palem village to bring her back, leading both families to attempt a settlement through a village panchayat on Friday. However, the discussions ended without resolution and both sides dispersed.

Late that night, the infant who should have been asleep in his mother arms was found missing. Panic spread as the mother and relatives searched the surroundings. Their search ended in horror when the baby body was discovered inside a nearby water tank.

The mother and her family have accused the baby father of being responsible for the death. Police registered a case and detained both parents for questioning to determine the exact sequence of events.
