The Telangana government is stepping up enforcement of traffic rules with a strong warning to vehicle owners who have pending challans. Authorities are preparing to introduce stricter measures aimed at improving compliance and enhancing road safety across the state.

Under the new system, motorists with more than five challans in a year could face serious consequences. Officials may freeze driving licenses or vehicle registration certificates until all pending fines are cleared, making it difficult for defaulters to access transport services.

To ensure transparency and quicker resolution of disputes, the government is also planning to establish a dedicated grievance redressal authority. This system will function in line with central motor vehicle regulations and is expected to be operational soon with a formal notification.

Vehicle owners will be required to submit objections related to challans only through an online portal, eliminating offline applications. The government has also set clear timelines for the entire process. Camera based challans must be issued within three days, while manual challans should be delivered within fifteen days.

Once a challan is issued, motorists will have forty five days to either pay the fine or raise an objection. Authorities will review complaints and respond within thirty days. If the decision is disputed, individuals can approach the court by paying half of the challan amount.

Officials believe that these measures will not only streamline the challan system but also encourage responsible driving behavior. By introducing strict enforcement and a structured grievance mechanism, the government aims to reduce traffic violations and improve overall road discipline in Telangana.
