  • Telangana new airports project moves ahead after central approval.
  • Warangal Mamnoor airport construction estimated at Rs 850 crore.
  • Adilabad airport runway planned with 2.9 kilometre length.

Telangana is set to expand its aviation infrastructure with the development of two new airports in Warangal and Adilabad. The state government has begun preparations to formally launch the projects after receiving approval from the central government.

Officials say the foundation stone ceremony is likely to be held in June. The Telangana government is planning to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation for both airports as part of a major infrastructure push aimed at improving regional connectivity.

The Warangal airport will be constructed near Mamnoor and is expected to require an investment of about Rs 850 crore. Authorities plan to design the facility in a way that reflects the cultural heritage and traditions of the Warangal region.

At the same time, the government is moving forward with plans to build the Adilabad airport across nearly one thousand acres of land. Around 415 acres have already been acquired and additional land acquisition is currently underway to complete the project requirements. The Telangana government had issued official orders for land acquisition on November 3, 2025.

The proposed runway at Adilabad airport will extend up to 2.9 kilometres, allowing both civilian and military aircraft to operate from the facility. Officials estimate that the construction of this airport will cost approximately Rs 400 crore. A defence centre is also planned as part of the project, and aircraft parking charges are expected to remain minimal.

At present, Hyderabad’s Shamshabad airport is the only major airport serving passengers across the state. Once the Mamnoor and Adilabad airports become operational, air connectivity across several districts of Telangana is expected to improve significantly.

Authorities believe the new airports will reduce travel pressure on Shamshabad airport while boosting economic development in Warangal and Adilabad. Increased tourism, arrival of new industries, growth in logistics services and better cargo transportation are also expected to follow.

The projects are likely to generate employment opportunities for local youth while opening new avenues for regional business and trade, strengthening Telangana’s infrastructure network in the coming years.
