Karnataka: BJP postponed its ‘Janotsav’ event scheduled in Doddaballapura on Thursday due to the sudden demise of Forest Minister Umesh Katti on Tuesday night. The event has been rescheduled on September 11. This is the second time the party is postponing the event. Earlier, the saffron party had decided to celebrate the completion of the first year of Basavaraj Bommai government and the third year of BJP rule in the state on July 28 but was cancelled at the last minute after BJP Yuva Morcha member Praveen Nettar was killed in Dakshina Kannada district.
Confirming the development, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who is in Belagavi to take part in the final rites of Katti said, the event has been postponed. “Government has decided to observe 3-day mourning due to the death of Umesh Katti, due to which our Janotsav event which was scheduled to be held on Thursday will be held on Sunday that is on September 11,” Bommai said.
Horticulture Minister Munirathna too said, ‘Janotsav has been postponed as we all are in pain.” “Umesh Katti has left us and this is very painful. We all are in mourning. So, tomorrow, Janotsav event will not happen. It has been rescheduled on Sunday. I request all leaders to come on Sunday,” Munirathna said. The event was supposed to be attended by BJP president JP Nadda and state party in-charge Arun Singh.
