Karnataka: Mangaluru and Mysuru emerge as cities with better air quality

While winter conditions push pollution levels higher across Karnataka Mangaluru and Mysuru report relatively better air quality offering relief as experts warn Bengaluru residents to stay cautious

  • Karnataka pollution concern

Karnataka: Air quality levels across Karnataka have seen noticeable fluctuations this winter with several cities reporting rising pollution due to weather conditions. Reduced wind speed and early morning fog have allowed pollutants to linger close to the ground especially in urban and high traffic zones.

Amid growing concerns in the capital Mangaluru and Mysuru have offered some positive news. These cities are currently experiencing comparatively cleaner air making them among the better performers in the state during this period. Environmental observers say coastal influence and lower congestion play a role in keeping pollution levels under control.

Bengaluru continues to face moderate to poor air quality in many parts of the city. Traffic congestion and ongoing construction work have worsened conditions particularly in areas such as Silk Board and Whitefield where pollution levels are crossing safety thresholds. Children senior citizens and people with respiratory problems are advised to be cautious.

In contrast Mysuru is recording satisfactory air quality with index values staying within a safer range. The overall atmosphere in the city remains relatively healthy and green cover is helping maintain balance. Mangaluru too has reported favorable conditions with fresh sea breeze contributing to improved air circulation.

Other cities like Hubballi Dharwad and Kalaburagi are seeing mixed results as population density and local activities influence pollution levels. Experts believe these conditions may continue for the next two weeks unless weather patterns change.

Health specialists are advising people to avoid outdoor activity during dense fog hours wear masks in high traffic areas and allow children to stay indoors when air quality dips. Simple precautions and awareness can help reduce health risks during this phase.
