Karnataka Cabinet Clears Five Year Age Limit Hike for Civil Service Recruitment

The Karnataka cabinet has given major relief to government job aspirants by approving a five year increase in the age limit for civil service recruitment across all categories, a decision expected to benefit thousands of candidates.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held at Vidhana Soudha under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Officials said the revised age relaxation will apply to recruitment notifications issued until December 31, 2027.

Earlier, the maximum age limit for general category candidates was capped at 35 years, while SC and ST applicants were allowed up to 38 years. With the latest approval, all categories will now receive an additional five year relaxation, creating uniform eligibility across groups.

Along with recruitment reforms, the cabinet also cleared welfare measures aimed at supporting nomadic and semi nomadic communities. The government has approved funding to build houses on 1200 square foot plots, with 600 square foot homes that include basic infrastructure facilities.

In another key decision, government land in Rauthanahalli village has been approved for allocation to 22 monasteries belonging to Dalit and backward communities, reinforcing support for social and religious institutions serving marginalised groups.

The cabinet further sanctioned funds for nutritional support under a welfare scheme covering families from scheduled tribe communities in eight districts. Food supplies will be procured and distributed for the next twelve months at a cost exceeding Rs 145 crore.

Together, these decisions highlight the state government’s focus on employment opportunities, social welfare, and inclusive development across Karnataka.
