Karnataka, Udupi: A tragic road accident on a national highway near Karkala in Udupi district claimed three lives on Friday, sending shockwaves through the region. The collision involved a private bus and a cruiser vehicle and occurred near Miyar in the Karkala Bajagoli stretch.
According to police, the bus and the cruiser collided head on with significant force, leaving the front portion of the cruiser completely mangled. The impact was severe enough to cause instant fatalities and serious injuries to several passengers travelling in both vehicles.
Eight injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals by locals and emergency responders. Doctors treating them said some victims sustained serious injuries and remain under close medical observation. The identities of the deceased are yet to be officially confirmed.
Police personnel from Karkala police station reached the spot soon after the accident and carried out a preliminary inspection. Traffic on the highway was briefly disrupted as rescue operations and vehicle removal were carried out.
A case has been registered at the Karkala police station, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the bus cruiser collision. Authorities are examining factors such as speed, road conditions, and possible driver error.
