The Karnataka government will replace laptops with cash rewards for SSLC district toppers transferring Rs 50000 directly to Aadhaar linked bank accounts to give students flexibility in using incentives wisely.

- SSLC toppers to receive cash reward instead of laptops
- toppers cash reward set at Rs 50000 per student
- SSLC toppers benefit through direct bank transfer
The Karnataka government has revised its incentive scheme for high performing SSLC students by replacing laptops with direct cash rewards. The decision is aimed at giving students greater freedom to decide how best to use the financial support they receive for their education.
Under the new arrangement the top three SSLC rank holders in each district will receive a cash reward of Rs 50000. The education department has already issued an official order stating that the amount will be transferred directly to the Aadhaar linked bank accounts of eligible students.
According to officials a total of 758 students from the 2024 to 25 academic year have been identified as eligible beneficiaries through the State Scholarship Portal. The funds will be released under the Quality Assurance and Student Encouragement Initiative for which the government has allocated nearly Rs 3.25 crore.
The move was first announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during Children’s Day celebrations. The government later formalised the announcement through a written order to ensure smooth implementation across districts.
Education department officials believe that cash rewards offer more practical value than laptops. They say students can use the money based on their individual academic needs including books coaching devices or other learning resources.
School administrators have also welcomed the decision stating that flexibility in spending will help students from different backgrounds make better use of the incentive and continue their education with confidence.
